Flirty Girls

What can I say, girls that can flirt do have all the fun. I should know, I'm a flirty girl. This card started several months ago with the Day at the Beach Swap I did. I loved the 1920's bathing beauty image and colored her, then I couldn't find a background for her. Sadly, she was put aside for a while, until the other night when I was cleaning off my desk (Yes, it does happen on occassion, and no it is not a sign of Ragnorok). She sat on the top of a pile of stuff to go into my ATC folder and she kept flirty with me. I went through my box of papers and found this great pink background with gold stripes. What I had at the end of the night was a Flirty Girl ATC.

Blooming

I'm a blooming idiot, no-that's not right. I'm the creator of blooming flower! Yes that's it. For those of you who agree with the first statement, I stick my tongue out at you. :P

I've been on this kick lately where I've been making crocheted flowers. Yep, the kind you see everywhere at high prices. I've decided to make a few to sell. Unlike the fancy department store flowers, mine are made without the use of labor from some other country (I'm growing flowers the American way) and are strictly quality controlled. I also do custom order flowers. I have a few listed on Etsy and some on the Earth Moon & Stars site. My favorite so far is the Zinnia bracelet up top. I tried it on to photograph it and it is just so soft and fun. I think I may make myself one.

Blush Earrings
I started this pair of earrings about 4 months ago. Let's hear it for speed in work. I put them aside to do other things and sort of forgot about them. When things end up on the bottom of the to do list, they run the risk of never getting done. The image doesn't show the color properly, they are really an AB pink. I still like them. My hubby made the metal work pieces for me.

Little Bunny Foo Foo...

hopping through the forest,
Scooping up the feild mice,
And bopping them on the heads....

What are we teaching out children? That was the princess's favorite song when she was little. Trust me, I can still hear her singing it in my sleep.

This little bunny doesn't hop through the forest commiting acts of violence on feild mice. He decorates your lapel prending to be a marshmallow bunny. I needlefelted a whole family of them for my family at Easter. I made blue ones from merino wool with silk and pink ones from corringdale wool. I think they turned out really cute. I'm proud of my high fiber, diet versions of marshmallow bunnies.

I have one for sale on etsy right now.

Song Swap ATC #5

This card is for the song "Uptown Girl" by Billy Joel. I love the image of the woman in this card. The woman was done by Olivia. It's she pretty. The background is from a vintage photograph of some city (I can't remember what city it is of anymore.) It turned out to be a fun card. My daughter came up with the idea of using the jewels on the edges. It's a nice touch.

Song Swap ATC #4

The song for this ATC combines two of my favorite things--bellydance and Sting. The song is Desert Rose. I sat and listened to this song and while the song played I made a sketch of how I wanted the ATC to look. Then I went and created what I sketched with Paint Shop Pro. The main image is the combination of three images that helped create the dancer in the oasis look that I sketched. After I printed the image and affixed it to the baseball card I was using for a base, I glued sand to the dunes. Everything was coated with a gloss coat and then I added a glitter coat to the sand. The coin glued to the card on the left side are coins from belly dance costumes.

I love to belly dance and even though I don't take lessons anymore and don't perform anymore I still love to dance when no one is around. It's not only good for the body, it's good for the soul. I took dance lessons for 3 years and loved it for the most part. I love doing veil work (who doesn't love twirling around with a sheer piece of fabric) and cane work (the cane work I learned was all flirty and fun.) I think most of all, I liked belly dance because it made me feel graceful and beautiful.

song Swap ATC #3

This is my third ATC for the Songs Swap. It's for the classic jazz song "Putting on the Ritz". The version I listened to while working on the card was the version done in the 80's by Taco. It's a little campy for a song, but I love the look of the ATC. It is a digital collage with glitter pen highlights and modgepodge effects. I also added the silver trim to the bottom of the card to give it dimention and bling.

Song Swap ATC #2

This is my card for "Little red Riding Hood" by Sam & the Shams. I realize that my Little Red isn't some innocent girl, but still a Lady needs to keep an eye out for men (I mean wolves) with ideas. This card is a digital collage. I did do a little detail work with glitter pens and coatings. All and all, I like the way it looks.

Song Swap ATC #1

When I was little my father had a stack of 78 rpm records that he'd play every now and then. He picked them up at a farm auction when he was a teen. My favorite song for him to play was the "Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy". I loved to sing along with this song and dance too it. Now I own a copy of that song in MP3 format. Times change but great music endures.

When I joined a songs ATC swap in my one ATC group, I knew one of the songs I had to use. The base of this ATC was an image I found on the net (it is very hard to find WWII era images of buglers.). I think this one turned out really cute.

Meet MarisolRosa

MarisolRosa is the second baggie doll I've done for the Goddess Dolls group. She sits about 12 inches tall (from where she sits to the top of her head, I didn't measure body length). In her hands she holds a shell that is like a mini-aquarium filled with shells and fish. Like all dolls, she was a bit of a challenge. Originally I made a polymer clay face cab for her, but once she was together , I didn't like the cab on her. So, she had head reconstruction surgery and I drew on a face. Getting her to sit on her own was achieved by several tummy tucks. This girl has had more plastic surgery than Cher. I love her hair, it's 100% angora rabbit yarn garnished with various fibers. The angora makes it light and floaty, it almost has the effect of floating in the water. The shell was from a box of shells I collected on Sanibel Island in Florida about 15 years ago. It was a nicely colored shell with barnacle on the inside. I coated it with glitter modgepodge and fastened in the glass fish beads, shell beads, and shells.

I would like to thank Rosa for the challenge. This was the first time I made a mermaid from this pattern and designing the tail to look right was interesting. She was a delight to make and I hope she delights you.

A Mermaid takes Shape

Most of the bead work is done on her. I have necklaces, hair, and a facial reconstruct to do yet. I sculpted this really cool face for her and when I tried it on, it didn't look right. Darn! It doesn't look too bad in this picture but the face looked creepy on her, not to mention that it was just too big for the doll. I'm picky on faces, they need to match the personality of the doll.

A lot of my doll costumes and inspirations come from belly dancers and showgirls. I like that bit of flash. When I took belly dance lessons we were always told that when you perform your costume must flow from the top of your head to the tips of your toes. When you are in costume, every part of you should be in costume. That is how I dress my dolls. They are decorated from the top of the head to the tip of the foot (or tail in this case). Everything that goes on a doll has to contribute to the costume.

Doing the baggie dolls was quite a challage for me. First you have to get inspired and work with items that you might not normally work with and then you need to create a flow with as many of the items as you can. It's hard making everything fit and sometimes it takes a lot of creativity. I enjoy the challange though. Challange keeps art fresh and when an artist doesn't challange themself they end of being stagnant and dull.

Dressed and ready to be Bejeweled

My dear mermaid is coming along nicely. We had a long discussion on what she wished to wear, mermaids are very picky about their clothing. I'm going to start on the decorating her clothes today. She wants to be really sparkly.

I've also been busy working on the diaper bag. I didn't get much work done in the studio this weekend. Saturday was hubby's birthday and we celebrated.
